The Red River Valley Tourism Association was formed twenty years ago to help the smaller communities in Texas and Oklahoma that border the Red River advertise their attractions for tourists. It is the only tourism association in the United States that is dual registered in two states. This dual registry gives the members the right to distribute their brochures and promotional materials in the Travel Centers of both Oklahoma and Texas. The Association holds two events annually, the Hwy 82/287 Yard Sale and the Stroll and Roll museum event, to help promote tourism throughout the area.
On the first weekend in June every year, the towns along Hwy 82/287 welcome tourists to 425 miles of yard sales, antique sales and Junk in the Trunk events. Travelers come from near and far to explore the sales and ?nd their unique treasure. The second weekend in September, communities within this tourist area, offer free admission to museums, and encourage local cemeteries, churches and historic buildings as well as genealogy libraries to assist history buffs in exploring their ancestry and history.
