From founder Kevin Mora, AKA “The Pain”:

High Altitude Fitness opened on January 10th, 2000, but the concept behind it developed naturally along with my journey into training and fitness. I grew up playing sports: baseball, football, soccer, basketball and skiing. My training grew more focused after I went to college to play baseball. When I discovered that some of my teammates had the same love of lifting, we started to hit the weight room religiously. My game jumped to the next level; I was no longer just a singles and doubles hitter—my power, speed, and stamina had all markedly improved. I was ADDICTED!

Years passed as I skied and snowboarded my way into my late 20’s. Not only was I lifting, but I started power lifting. I was hoisting some descent weight, and my body weight increased to 240 pounds, which I loved. Unfortunately, I was training at a gym that did not understand my passion for lifting and became frustrated that my ambitions as a trainer were thwarted by management. From this, a vision was born. With the encouragement and support of Holly, my then future wife, plans to build the perfect gym came to life. By January 2000, High Altitude Fitness was a reality. Let the “Pain” begin!
